Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger to open talks with Jack Wilshere over new deal as he starts to prove fitness

Wilshere is a free agent in the summer and and linked with a summer switch to West Ham, the England midfielder could even sign a pre-contract with an overseas club in January

ARSENAL are set to open talks with Jack Wilshere about a new contract, according to reports.

The 25-year-old is among a group of players who are free agents next summer, and could even sign a pre-contract with overseas clubs in January.

The Daily Mail report the Gunners will sit down with the player and his representatives to extend the midfielder’s stay at the Emirates beyond next summer.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has been pleased with Wilshere’s return to fitness after another major injury setback while on loan at Bournemouth.

Talks were on hold while the England international regained his fitness and now talks are back on the agenda after a run of games where Wilshere is getting back to his best.

Wilshere was linked with moves away from the Emirates during the last window, with West Ham leading the race for his signature.

Wenger will need to get a new deal over the line quickly as the longer talks drag on, the less likely Wilshere will be a the club next season as a host of clubs are monitoring the situation.

Everton, Roma, AC Milan have shown interest in the past, while Chelsea and Manchester City are looking to boost their quota of home-grown players.

Wenger will not want the embarrassment of losing an English academy product on a free transfer, especially when Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil could also walk out for nothing next May.

Manchester City are confident of landing Sanchez in January or as a free agent next summer, while Ozil who was outstanding in the win at Everton could be offloading in the winter window if a new deal is not agreed.
