MANCHESTER CITY have finally been conkered in their incredible start to the season.

Pep Guardiola predictably made many changes for their Carabao Cup last-16 tie tonight but no one could have anticipated one particularly nutty character to step out at the Etihad before kick-off.

Luckily, City's groundstaff saved the squirming squirrel from Wolves - by somehow managing to scoop him up and release him away from the stadium after a few failed attempts.

City tweeted the drama and social media users went wild for the news.

One City supporter tweeted: "When the game is so boring you have to post a pic of a hamster."

And another fan actually tweeted a correction to that!

Presumably his face must have turned as crimson as a red squirrel when he realised it was a joke.

Sadly, though,  there was less excitement on the pitch later - as Guardiola's Premier League leaders toiled against the Championship top dogs in a goalless draw before winning the penalty shootout 4-1.

Perhaps Guardiola needed Fur-nandinho in his line-up.

One fan even suggested he would be better than Eliquim Mangala, who was handed a rare start at centre-half.
