TROY DEENEY has set twitter into a frenzy once again after grabbing Stoke midfielder Joe Allen's face and neck with both hands.

Deep into injury time with his team down 1-0 the Watford skipper let out his frustrations after Allen cleared the ball when his teammate was down.

Allen looked to make the first move, advancing towards Deeney but the Hornets forward reacted by putting both hands around the back of Allen's neck and sinking his hands into his cheeks.

The 5ft 5in Allen was no match for the 6ft Deeney who managed to lift the midfielder off his feet while wearing a smile on his face.

Players from both teams quickly moved in before the altercation had chance to escalate even further.

Remarkably, Deeney was only shown a yellow card, as was Allen but fans were stunned that the Watford man wasn't given the marching orders.

Other social media users mocked Deeney referring back to his comments a fortnight ago after Watford defeated Arsenal.

After the match he said the Gunners lacked "cojones" but his comments seemed to have come back to haunt him.

One Arsenal fan said: "Just look at your massive cajones Troy Deeney. What a man. Your kid must be so proud."

While another of Gunners faithful said: "Troy Deeney - picks on the smallest player on the pitch - what cajones he has."

Other's on twitter slammed Deeney, bringing up his time spent in prison when he was sentenced for kicking a man in the head during a brawl.

While some condemned him for the bad example he was setting for children.

Shortly after the incident the full time whistle blew giving Stoke three points for the 1-0 win - their first of the month.

After the game Stoke manager Mark Hughes shared his thoughts on the incident.

Hughes said: "It was unfortunate and unnecessary because we kicked the ball out when Pieters was down. The spirit of the game is to throw it back, but Deeney, the captain, should know better and tried to put the ball in the box and that’s when Joe reacts.

"I've seen the pictures of raised hands and thumbnails in faces and that's not really necessary.

"I'm not sure [if it will be a ban]. More often than not those situations get re-visited by people in authorities and decisions made as a consequence and maybe we should let it take its course."
