Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho reveals why Anthony Martial has an advantage over Marcus Rashford
The English hotshot has started more matches than the Frenchman so far this season but the Red Devils manager insists ex-Monaco man does have one huge advantage
JOSE MOURINHO has revealed that Anthony Martial has an advantage over Marcus Rashford – despite the latter starting more games for Manchester United this season.
And it worked wonders for the Frenchman against Tottenham on Saturday.
Rashford has been named in Mourinho’s starting XI ten times compared to the Frenchman’s seven so far this campaign, scoring a goal more with a tally of seven.
But it was the ex-Monaco forward who proved to be the matchwinner against Spurs after he replaced Rash from the bench.
Mourinho has now lifted the lid on the instructions he gave Martial before sending him on.
And he also explained how he is much more comfortable in one aspect of his game than the 19-year-old.
Speaking after securing the three points at Old Trafford, Jose said: "Same position as Marcus but more comfortable dropping in between the lines to have the ball and to try to drive the ball, not just to attack space.
"I was telling him to do that but at the same time to play from Lukaku, against three very good central defenders, but three central defenders who had a hard match for 60, 70 minutes against Lukaku and Rashford.

"So he comes, okay, probably a lucky shot, but the movement is good, the desire is good, and the goal is the goal that give us two more points than the 0-0."
The debate has been ongoing all season as to who should start for the Red Devils.
LATEST MANCHESTER UNITED NEWS
United fans at Old Trafford made their feelings clear as a chorus of boos rang round the ground upon seeing Rashford’s number go up to be subbed.
Former United captain Gary Neville believes that martial would be an instant started if he regularly gave more than 85 per cent.
Speaking on his podcast, he said: "For someone of his talent, he should be tearing this league apart with his ability. He's lost his place in the France squad. There's obviously something wrong with him.
"Mourinho and the French manager has turned off of him a little bit. You always get the feeling he's playing at 85 per cent. If he showed that extra 15 per cent, then he could do anything.
"He's got everything you'd want: composure in front of goal, great skill, pace, strength, but what is that little bit missing?
"The best players in the world don't have 'buts' - the likes of Luiz Suarez, Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi - there are no buts. Martial is well off that category but that's where he's got to be looking. He's worth £50 million and with that talent, he's got to step up.
"He scores in big games, he takes big moments on and obviously has the temperament to play in big games. But come on, let's see it every single week.
"He could be a player that could score 20 goals in 20 games if he really wanted to and strived to be the best."
