According to ESPN, sources close to the player have revealed that the ex-Tottenham star is happy at Old Trafford.

While they also state that Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho wants the midfielder to remain at the Theatre of Dreams.

Carrick has featured just once for United this season - an appearance against Burton Albion in the Carabao Cup back in September.

He has missed the last six weeks of the campaign with an illness, though he has returned to first team training in a bid to force his way back into contention.

He is behind in the pecking order to Nemanja Matic, Paul Pogba, Marouane Fellaini and Ander Herrera, leading to clubs to vie for his signature.

The Foxes, Baggies and Villans have all enquired over his services, but Carrick is likely to stay at United until his contract expires in the summer, where he is expected to call time on his career.

Carrick was named as club captain in the summer following Wayne Rooney's exit to Everton, and is believed to be a key figure of the dressing room with his experience and leadership qualities.

He was granted a testimonial back in June, following 11 years of service after joining from Spurs in 2006.

Carrick - capped 34-times by the England national squad - is currently coaching United's Under-14 side.

The five-time Premier League winner is looking to gain his coaching badges so he can move into management when he retires from the game.
