Jose Mourinho's men would have been hoping for a quick exit from the capital after they failed to find the back of the net for the first time in six games.

But Virgin Trains reported a fault with a signalling system earlier in the day between Milton Keynes and Watford meaning the Reds' journey back to Manchester was held up.

It is believed the United stars finally stepped foot in Stockport at five minutes past midnight.

Fellaini, Valencia, Blind all went back north with Marcus Rashford, Eric Bailly and Jesse Lingard.

However, it is thought Jose Mourinho stayed in London with his family ahead of the international break and a number of players remained in the capital for flights to their respective countries.

Alvaro Morata's header gave Antonio Conte's side a much needed win after their 3-0 mauling at the hands of Roma earlier in the week.
