Jurgen Klopp, Steven Gerrard and Philippe Coutinho were all said to have greeted the German in a bid to convince him to join.

Havertz signed a new five-year deal at BayArena in July - after completing his A levels.

And he is getting As across the board on the pitch, with three Bundesliga assists in five games and FOUR goals against Belarus for Germany Under-19s this month, where he was watched by Liverpool scouts.

Klopp has raided the German league for Roberto Firmino, Emre Can, Joel Matip Loris Karius, Ragnar Klavan and Naby Keita since joining from Borussia Dortmund in 2015.

And he is apparently hoping to lure Havertz to Anfield with the intention of moulding him into a Premier League player.

The likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold, 19, and Ben Woodburn, 18, have graduated from the academy into the first-team squad.

Klopp, speaking about the starlets' breakthrough, said: "The boys did really well but they all have to improve

"They have to go from being really skilled kids to being players that you have to use. That's the next step.

"Look at Rhian Brewster, everyone knows about his talent. It's fantastic.

"Ben is a step ahead and someone like Trent is already another step ahead. It's all cool and good for the future."
