Manchester United ‘will only sign Gareth Bale if Real Madrid halve £100million tag’

MANCHESTER UNITED will only sign Gareth Bale if Real Madrid halve their whopping £100million valuation, according to reports.

Jose Mourinho is still interested in the Welsh winger, 28, but is unwilling to part with any more than £50m for the injury-plagued star, claim the Sunday Mirror.

Los Blancos are hoping to raise major funds in January in order to sign David De Gea, Neymar and Kevin De Bruyne in the coming months.

And Bale appears to be one man Zinedine Zidane is happy to part with.

Earning an astronomical £350,000-a-week, Bale has now suffered 26 injuries while at the La Liga giants.

The Welshman recently returned from a two-month lay-off with a groin injury, as Real Madrid struggled to a 2-2 draw with third tier side Fuenlabrada on Tuesday.

But he missed this weekend's La Liga clash with Athletic Bilbao with a calf strain.

Now it would appear Real have given up on Bale - contracted to Los Blancos until 2022 - and will look to cash-in.

However, Zidane is still unwilling to allow the former Southampton and Tottenham man to leave cheaply, as he embarks on an ambitious squad upheaval.

Mourinho is hoping to add some width in the coming transfer windows, having already failed to land Bale or Inter Milan star Ivan Perisic.

Yet with Madrid only valuing star goalkeeper De Gea - who had an astonishing game against Arsenal on Saturday night, saving a Premier League record 14 shots - at £50m-£60m, the United boss is unlikely to go over that for Bale.

Bale has only made 11 appearances this season - scoring three times - in all competitions, including just five games in the Spanish top flight.

He moved from Spurs to Real in 2013 for an incredible £85m, going on to win three Champions League crowns and one La Liga title.
