De Gea was in simply imperious form and without him, United could quite easily have lost the game in North London.

One particular highlight for the United No1 was a sensational double-save, first denying Alexandre Lacazette before keeping out the Alexis Sanchez rebound with his foot.

It proved decisive for Jose Mourinho's men, as the win moved them seven points clear of Arsenal in the standings, closing the gap to neighbours Manchester City to five points.

Following the game, it was revealed De Gea made a Premier League record-levelling 14 stops.

The Spaniard equalled the tally set by Newcastle's Tim Krul - against Tottenham in November 2013 - and ex-Gunners stopper Vito Mannone... against Chelsea in April 2014.

In Saturday's showdown, United showed-off their ruthless streak, as two goals in the first 12 minutes wrecked Arsenal's perfect home record.

Both goals were the direct result of The Gunners losing possession to United’s pressing game deep inside their own half.

And even Paul Pogba’s 75th-minute red card for stamping on Hector Bellerin could not halt United in a pulsating match at the Emirates.

Jesse Lingard scored two of United's goals, with Antonio Valencia grabbing the other, with Lacazette's goal mere consolation.

However, it wasn't all good news for Mourinho, who will now be missing Pogba for next week's Manchester derby.

The French midfielder was shown a straight-red for a stamp on Hector Bellerin with 15 minutes left on the clock.
