Manchester United confident of signing Tottenham ace Danny Rose in January OR next summer

Ashley Young has found a new lease of life at left-back but Jose Mourinho is keen to fix problem position

JOSE MOURINHO is reportedly confident of signing Danny Rose in a £50million deal.

Manchester United tried to sign the left-back over the summer but saw their efforts derailed by his injury and Kyle Walker's exit.

And the Daily Mail claims Old Trafford chief Mourinho expects to complete the big-money switch by the summer - even if he fails in January.

Left-back has been an issue for United, with Luke Shaw seemingly heading for the exit after failing to fulfil his potential.

Matteo Darmian had been Mourinho's preferred option before falling down the pecking order.

Daley Blind and Marcos Rojo can both operate on the left of defence but Ashley Young has emerged as the shock solution.

The converted winger lost out to Mohamed Salah in the November player of the month race after a series of impressive performances.

Young is closing in on an England recall after balancing solid defensive displays with an attacking threat.

At 32, however, the former Aston Villa and Watford ace is not a long-term option.

Rose, 27, is yet to hit top form after a long-term lay-off but has been one of the league's top left-backs over the past few seasons.

He told The Sun he would consider a move away over the summer and Mauricio Pochettino may be ready to sanction a deal.

A United move would net the England defender a huge pay rise but Old Trafford chiefs would have to come close to the record fee for an English defender rivals City paid for Walker.
