The German midfielder's representative have been in talks with the Gunners for more than a year over fresh terms.

Arsene Wenger's men were understood to have given up on the 29-year-old, and resigned to him leaving the Emirates.

But there is still hope he may yet stay and pen a new deal - expected to be for three years - before the end of the month.

Emirates insiders have suggested a stunning breakthrough in negotiations is "very, very close."

It is thought he wants a huge boost on his £140,000-a-week wages, along with a hefty signing-on bonus.

However, if terms are not struck before the January transfer window opens, Arsenal will look to cut their loses.

Wenger does not want to lose the ex-Real Madrid ace for nothing, and would rather get a fee for him.

Manchester United are one of the clubs interested, but Emirates chiefs are reluctant to sell to a league rival.

Flogging him abroad would be their preferred option, and they will look for between £15m and £20m.

Ozil joined the Gunners from Spanish giants Madrid for £42.5m in the summer of 2013.

The German player of the year has gone to make 127 Premier League appearances and score 24 goals for the club.
