And Welt am Sonntag in his homeland claims a number of clubs are in the running for his signature.

Speaking recently to Eurosport, Schweinsteiger admitted he was keeping his future options open.

"The state of affairs is that I still have this contract, but I have nothing else and I'm open to everything."

Schweinsteiger did suffer with several injury problems, but that does not seem to deterring several sides from preparing a deal for him.

He achieved legendary status during his time in his homeland playing for Bayern Munich.

The star played over 400 times for the club as helped them to win a host of honours, including the title eight times and the Champions League in 2013.

United brought his 17-year spell with the Bavarians to an end in 2015 as he became the first-ever German to play for the Red Devils' first-team.

However, his time at Old Trafford was hugely disappointing as he suffered with several injury problems.

Upon Jose Mourinho's arrival in the summer of 2016 he was demoted to the Under-23 side and left out of their Premier League squad.

Schweinsteiger did force his way back into Mourinho's plans and made first appearance of the campaign late off the bench during the EFL Cup quarter-final victory over West Ham.
