Burnley star James Tarkowski slapped with three-match ban after being charged with violent conduct earlier this week
Clarets defender appeared to elbow Brighton forward Glenn Murray in the ribs during last weekend's 0-0 stalemate
BURNLEY star James Tarkowski has been slapped with a three-match ban after being charged with violent conduct.
The Clarets defender, 25, appeared to elbow Brighton forward Glenn Murray in the ribs during last weekend's 0-0 stalemate.
Tarkowski will now miss games against Tottenham, Manchester United and Huddersfield.
The FA charged the Manchester-born defender with violent conduct earlier this week, before decided on a three-game suspension.
An FA statement on Thursday read: James Tarkowski will miss Burnley’s next three matches after he was charged with violent conduct.
"He accepted the charge but argued the suspension was excessive. This was rejected by an Independent Regulatory Commission.
"The defender was involved in an off-the-ball incident with Brighton’s Glenn Murray during Saturday’s game [16/12/17]."
Millions of television viewers saw the 35th minute incident during Saturday's goalless draw at Turf Moor.
But it was not seen by referee Chris Kavanagh or the match officials.
Off the ball incidents which are not seen at the time are referred by The FA to a panel of three former elite match officials.

On the incident, Murray revealed: "I can't remember what happened but I felt something in my ribs.
"However the referee didn't see it."
Moments before the incident Kavanagh had given a soft penalty against Tarkowski after a tangle of legs with Murray.
The Brighton man then blasted his spot kick over the bar, with Seagulls boss Chris Hughton fuming another penalty was not awarded for the obvious elbow.
