THE Premier League has produced more than a thousand goals over the course of 2017 - and some of them have been some absolute belters.

The net has bulged over a thousand times in the past 12 months as fans have been treated to some brilliant strikes.

But which goal is the best we have seen in the past year?

Olivier Giroud has produced a scorpion, while we have seen brilliant solo efforts from Eden Hazard and Sofiane Boufal.

Emre Can and Andy Carroll have treated us to the truly spectacular and Wayne Rooney rolled back the years with a goal from inside his own half.

Olivier Giroud - ARSENAL v Crystal Palace

The new year was only a matter of hours old when Giroud produced his magical scorpion finish against Palace.

The French striker checked back from his run into the box to somehow who Alexis Sanchez's cross into the net off the crossbar with his left heel.

Andy Carroll - WEST HAM v Crystal Palace

The West Ham striker has a reputation for being a battering ram of a forward rather than for any silky skills with his feet.

But Carroll showed there is far more to his game with a stunning scissor kick into the top corner with Palace again on the receiving end of a great goal.

Eden Hazard - CHELSEA v Arsenal

There are few better sights in the game than Chelsea star Hazard dribbling at opposition defences, and this time he added a finish to his artistry.

The Belgian collected the ball on halfway surrounded by Arsenal players but saw off two challenges then turned Laurent Koscielny inside out before finding the net.

Xherdan Shaqiri - STOKE v Hull

Swiss star Shaqiri arrived in England with a reputation for golden goals, and this strike was right out of the top draw.

There seemed little danger to Hull when he received the ball 30-yards out, but Shaqiri shifted inside on his left-foot and unleashed a pile-driver into the top corner.

Emre Can -  Watford v LIVERPOOL

When you are pushing for a top four finish, you don't care how scrappy goals are and Liverpool were in need of some inspiration as they fought Watford.

Then up stepped Can with a stunning overhead kick from just inside the penalty area to seal the win if sensational style.

Charlie Daniels - BOURNEMOUTH v Man City

It was a case of David vs Goliath with the superstars of City visited Bournemouth at the start of the season but Cherries full-back Daniels turned up with his own piece of magic.

Little looked on the cards when the ball dropped loose out on the left, only for Daniels to step up and drive a thunderbolt of a shot into the far corner.

Antonio Valencia - MAN UTD v Everton

United started the season in fine goalscoring form, but it was defender Valencia who stole the limelight in spectacular fashion at Old Trafford.

Everton half-cleared an early cross into their area, but Valencia pounced to send a rocket past the helpless Jordan Pickford in the Toffees goal.

Sofiane Boufal - SOUTHAMPTON v West Brom

So much was expected of Boufal when he arrived at Saints but the forward has rarely delivered on his promise.

But the Moroccan showed just what he has in his locker with a fine solo run leaving two West Brom defenders colliding into each other before rolling his shot into the bottom corner.

Wayne Rooney - EVERTON v West Ham

The legs may not be as strong as old, but few players in recent years have struck a sweeter ball than Rooney.

And the Hammers found that out to their cost when Joe Hart mis-cued a clearance and Rooney struck a delightful effort from inside his own half into the goal.

Jermain Defoe Crystal Palace v BOURNEMOUTH

Memories of the Marco van Basten goal for Holland in the 1988 European Championship final is compliment enough for this goal.

Palace won't have been too worried as Defoe chased a hopeful punt upfield but from nowhere he whipped a dipping volley into the far corner.
