SIR ALEX FERGUSON insists Arsene Wenger's record of Premier League matches managed will never be beaten.

The former Manchester United boss paid tribute to the Frenchman after seeing his own record of 810 encounters overtaken.

And he believes it is a statistic that will stand for ever.

He said: “I applaud Arsene on surpassing my record of managing 810 Premier League games.

"It is a fantastic milestone which has required the highest standards of dedication and professional management to achieve.

"I doubt his record, whatever it turns out to be, will ever be beaten. “Congratulations on a truly remarkable career and great service to football and Arsenal FC.”

Wenger arrived in England back in 1996 and has remained the Gunners dug-out ever since.

He won the Premier League title and FA Cup in his first full season before repeating the trick four years later.

In the 2003-04 season, Arsenal became the first side to go the whole season unbeaten since Preston in 1887-88 and the Wenger.

Ferguson was appointed as United manager in 1986 and oversaw 1,007 league matches — including four-and-a-half seasons in the old First Division — before retiring in 2013.
