The news will come as a bitter blow for supporters who had been hoping for good news after a weekend of turmoil.

Coutinho has been linked with Barcelona since last summer but a Nike gaffe appeared to show his deal with the Spanish giants was already done.

His name appeared on the Nike website with viewers told they could get a Barca shirt with his name on the back.

Jurgen Klopp had been sweating on the fitness of 23-goal Salah.

The Egyptian star picked up a knock in the 2-1 win against Leicester after scoring both goals as the Reds come from behind.

Klopp said he would be assessed on Sunday - but his not travel proves he is not fit enough to play.

There has been no official word yet from the club on the status of Salah.

With a Merseyside derby against Everton in the FA Cup on Friday, the German boss may just want to rest his top scorer.

However, reports have claimed that Salah will miss two weeks because of the knee injury.

The Coutinho situation seems rather more ominous, although some reports claim that Coutinho also has a thigh injury and is being rested for the game against Everton.

Liverpool are said to be taking legal action against Barcelona for their continued tapping up of the player.

Fans were incredulous at the news.
