Argentina daily Ole report Racing would offer him the chance of first team football, but that any deal for Romero would be complicated by his wage demands.

Jose Mourinho has attempted to block any move for the Argentina stopper as he feels in the experienced Argentinian he has the perfect back-up to David De Gea.

Following a chat with Albiceleste boss Jorge Sampaoli, it became clear that Romero will need to play more to make sure he is part of the squad which travels to Russia.

A six-month loan deal would provide a potential solution.

However, it would not really suit United's needs, so it is unlikely they would be willing to cover his salary for that period.

Romero was signed by Louis van Gaal in the summer of 2015 and started that season as first-choice goalkeeper as De Gea looked to be on his way to Real Madrid.
