Swansea line up record £25m bid for Atletico Madrid’s France striker Kevin Gameiro
Swansea City are making a record £25 million move for Atletico Madrid’s France striker Kevin Gameiro.
The Premier League's bottom side are willing to pay the asking price for Gameiro but face a fight with Turkish giants Fenerbahce to get him.
Gameiro, 30, who hit three goals in 13 internationals, scored for Atletico at the weekend but will be cleared to leave this week as the La Liga outfit balance the books.
Swansea have been in touch with Gameiro and are putting their case.
But the Turks may be able to beat them by offering better wages.
Gameiro has already turned down previous Premier League interest in this window and the chance of a lucrative move to Fener has more appeal.
Swans have also inquired about Atletico’s Argentinian midfielder Nicolas Gaitan, who is available on loan.
Supremo Huw Jenkins has money to spend and is under growing pressure to improve the squad after their worst half-season in the top flight.

But he is also thought to be battling to fend off West Ham's £25m interest in centre-back Alfie Mawson.
The Swans want nearer £40m but the Hammers have appeared willing to offer a few extras, including old boy Andre Ayew.
And Hammers boss David Moyes is willing to quadruple the 23-year-old’s weekly pay to £60,000.
