Reports claim Baggies have sent scouts to see the 28-year-old in action at the club's winter training camp in Malaga

The Daily Mail claim the Baggies have sent scouts to see the 28-year-old in action at the club's winter training camp in Malaga.

Albion are reportedly ready to offer the Switzerland international — who has 22 caps — a three-and-a-half-year deal.

Lang netted the winner for Basel in their Champions League win against Manchester United in November.

He can also play at centre back as Alan Pardew looks to sure up his defence to avoid relegation.

Lang has played every league match this season and could also help fill the void if Jonny Evans leaves this month.

Arsenal and Manchester City are keen on the Northern Irishman and have been joined by Leicester in the race for his services.

All three clubs had £25million bids for Evans rejected last summer but could be accepted if Pardew can find a replacement.

The Baggies are said to have lined up 6ft 4in Egypt international Ali Gabr, initially on loan from Zamalek.

They would then spend any cash they receive for Evans on a new striker with Daniel Sturridge and Danny Ings on their radar.
