And it has left him battling to save his season as scans confirmed the extent of the problem.

Carroll, 29, will be out until at least the end of April and that will only leave a few games of the campaign.

He suffered the injury during the match against West Brom when he scored twice to secure victory for West Ham.

But he carried on playing in that game and also made a five-minute sub appearance against Tottenham before the injury was fully revealed.

Fellow strikers Diafra Sakho and Javier Hernandez, who rescued a point against Bournemouth yesterday, have also been linked with a move away from the London Stadium.

But Carroll’s setback has further dented David Moyes’ injury-ravaged squad.

And the Scotsman says he cannot afford to let any leave at the moment.

He said: "There’s been speculation about Chicharito but there has been speculation about Andy Carroll, about Diafra Sakho, about every man and his dog.

"As far as I am concerned, you can look at my bench and you can say, 'If there is one club at this present time that does not need to lose any players, it is West Ham'. We’re so short."

One man who could be coming into West Ham is ex-Manchester City star Samir Nasri.

The Frenchman has reportedly been offered to Moyes by Antalyaspor, who he only joined in the summer.

But Cumhur Arici, a member of the Antalyaspor board, confirmed the former Arsenal star's availability.

He said: "A clear decision has been made for a parting of the ways with Nasri.

"His manager will come and negotiations will be made on the subject of money owed and we will part company."
