Chelsea news: Blues target Edin Dzeko drops hint over his future in chat with Roma legend Francesco Totti

Antonio Conte has made the Bosnian international his No1 choice in his hunt for a new striker

CHELSEA target Edin Dzeko could have dropped a huge hint over his future after he was spotted joking with Roma director Francesco Totti.

The Bosnian has emerged as a top target for the Blues as they desperately attempt to bolster their strikeforce.

Antonio Conte has pushed the Chelsea board to get him another experienced striker ever since he took charge at Stamford Bridge.

Following the departure of Diego Costa in the summer, Alvaro Morata was brought in as his replacement but the Spaniard is massively out of form.

Michy Batshuyai has failed to shine when given an opportunity in attack and Conte is willing to let the Belgian leave on loan this month – as long as gets another forward first.

And Chelsea's search has now taken them to the Italian capital as they try to secure a deal for ex-Manchester City man Edin Dzeko.

Monchi, Roma's sporting director, insists they will not "weaken the squad" this month but refused to comment on whether a bid had been received for the 31-year-old.

But Dzeko was caught having a chat with Totti as the Roma squad boarded a train to Milan for this afternoon's clash with Inter.

And he could just have dropped himself it, according to Football Italia.

Just as the forward was getting onto the carriage, Totti was spotted asking him: "This train doesn't go to London, does it?"

To which a smiling Dzeko replied: "Not yet."

It remains to be seen whether that was a subtle hint that he is due to swap Italy for England, but Chelsea appear to be drawing up plenty of back up plans.

A move for West Ham's Andy Carroll collapsed due to the England international's latest injury, while they were also rebuffed in an attempt to get Peter Crouch on loan from Stoke.

And reports emerged this morning that they have contacted Leicester City to enquire about getting Islam Slimani on loan for the rest of the campaign.

They have also been linked with a swoop for Crystal Palace's Christian Benteke.

Conte's side are next in action against Arsenal in the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final on Wednesday.
