Real Betis 3 Valencia 6: Valencia go second in La Liga after winning nine-goal thriller with Arsenal and Manchester United outcasts among the goals

VALENCIA leap-frogged Real Madrid to go second in La Liga by beating Real Betis in a nine-goal thriller.

One-time Liverpool and Tottenham target Geoffrey Kondogbia gave visiting Valencia the lead after 31 minutes before Goncalo Guedes added to that opener to complete a standard first half.

But the floodlights opened after the interval as both defences fell to pieces.

Rodrigo Moreno and Santi Mina put their side four goals ahead with just 16 minutes remaining.

But the introduction of Arsenal-owned forward Joel Campbell on 77 minutes sparked Betis into action.

The Costa Rican scored on 79 minutes and created Antonio Sanabria’s goal seconds later, before ex-Barcelona starlet Cristian Tello made it 4-3.

With two minutes remaining, West Ham-flop-turned-La-Liga-goal-machine Simone Zaza grabbed his sixth of the season.

And in injury time Manchester United ace Andreas Pereira – who Jose Mourinho did not want to lose on loan – grabbed the last of the goals to make it six in the final 16 minutes of normal time.

When the Old Trafford midfielder defied the Portuguese boss to insist on a loan move away, he said: “Andreas Pereira was a personal decision that I don't agree with.

“A decision I don't think honestly I don't think is the best decision for him, a decision that disappoints me a little bit, because I think he has the potential to be here fighting for a position, for opportunities, and fighting to be a Manchester United player.”
