It hasn’t taken long for Liverpool’s defensive frailties to grab the headlines this season, with the five goals conceded v Manchester City and the two against Sevilla on Wednesday evening, meaning the Reds have now conceded 13 goals in just seven domestic and European matches. The positivity that was present prior to the international break has been replaced with more doom and gloom and negativity.

Wednesday night’s  2-2 draw with Sevilla was made all the more painful considering the four other English sides in the Champions League all recorded comfortable victories: Chelsea 6 – 0 Qarabag, Man Utd 3-0 Basel, Tottenham 3-1 Borussia Dortmund and Feyenoord 0-4 Man City,

Burnley are the next visitors to Anfield on Saturday afternoon – 3pm kick off UK time – before four consecutive away trips (in-fact just two of our next eight matches are at Anfield) which include back-to-back visits to Leicester City in the League Cup and Premier League, a long trip to Spartak Moscow (Champions League) followed by a relatively short journey to Newcastle Utd, before the second international break of the season rudely interrupts things.
