Rafa Benitez has revealed he tried to sign Mousa Dembele when he was manager of Serie A side Napoli.
The Newcastle United boss was speaking on Sky Sports’ Premier League launch broadcast on Wednesday morning when he admitted he tried to lure Dembele to Italy.
Benitez claims he made the move on the advice of Dembele’s international teammate Dries Mertens.
Newcastle face Dembele’s Tottenham in the first game of the new Premier League season on Sunday, so the Belgian will have an opportunity to show Benitez what he’s missing.
Dembele himself was also interviewed on the same Sky broadcast.
