Pep Guardiola referred to Tottenham as “the Harry Kane team” when discussing Manchester City’s title rivals.
The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager was speaking to reporters after his side’s 1-0 win at Chelsea on Saturday.
“It’s in September, so Chelsea won 15 games in a row last season, were unbeatable and won the league, not easy, but they won it in advance,” Guardiola said after the game.
“Of course this season has a little more problems because they [Chelsea] play every three days, that’s always more complicated for all the teams.
“But we also have United, we saw again the Harry Kane team scores every day two or three goals.” (Quotes via Sky Sports.)
I don’t think Guardiola was aiming a dig at Spurs. It’s more likely he was simply suggesting that Tottenham have a player in Kane who will ensure they are challenging for the Premier League title this season.
I’m sure he doesn’t need telling that Spurs have more than one top quality player. Tottenham and Manchester City will meet for the first time this season in December.

Don’t suppose when he was at Barca that it was know as the Lionel Messi Team then!! i’d like to see how good he’d be as the manager of City when they were just a yoyo club from the championship to prem and nearly bankrupt, before the Gazillions started pouring in. Never built any team that didn’t have the resources to buy top players. I wonder if he’d take Harry in that City line up given the chance..
I would suggest at the moment he classes Harry Kane as the best finisher in the premier league.
Value wise he is immense to Tottenham just as he would be to any club in the world.
Obviously Guardiola would love him at Manchester however there is no way he is going to leave Spurs as surely he would be costing as much as Neymar or potentially more due to the hard bargaining Tottenham achieve when selling players. Quite simply I think it should be taken as a compliment.
I’ve taken it with a pinch of salt because it’s only jealousy in my opinion that Spurs have such a powerful centre forward whom he’d love to have in his team. The Spaniard has a short memory of his time at Barcelona when Lionel Messi was considered by all as Barcelona and still is to this day. He could also have chosen his words to irritate the rest of the Spurs squad. Just laugh at it lads and take it as a compliment.
