Arsene Wenger has been singing his praises and it looks as though youngster Chris Willock may be in with an outside chance for a place in Arsenal’s squad this season.

The teenager impressed in the Gunners’ pre-season friendly at Boreham Wood at the weekend, causing Wenger to single him out for praise.

‘He’s a very young boy and I wanted him to have a run out with the big boys to see how much he has to do,’ Wenger told Arsenal Player.

‘But technically and tactically he integrated very well. Of course it’s natural that he lacks a bit of power at that age but when he gets that he will be a very interesting player.

‘It is more to see who can integrate into the first team from the youth team – who is the closest to the first team.’

But who is the player who caught Wenger’s eye?

Willock is just 16 but was named in the starting XI for Saturday’s friendly.

He is a versatile attacking player, capable of filling in on either wing, in central midfield or up front.

His brother, Matthew, is on Manchester United’s books.

And the teenager was believed to have been targeted by United earlier this year, but Arsenal offered him a lucrative new contract to keep him at the club.

Willock’s younger brother, Joe, is also at Arsenal.

He made his debut for the Gunners’ Under-18 side last year.
