Arsene Wenger has defended his ability to manage Arsenal – saying if he is tactically ‘useless’ then he has hidden it very well.

A section of the club’s supporters made their views on the Frenchman known during Arsenal’s 1-0 Premier League win over West Brom on Saturday after revealing a banner that read: ‘Arsene. Thanks for the memories but it’s time to say goodbye.’

The Gunners boss was asked about the banner during his post-match press conference, but refused to comment on the issue before then responding to criticism he has received for Arsenal’s tricky start to the season.

The Frenchman has now defended his position at the north London outfit once more, insisting that he does his job with ‘total commitment’.

‘Look, in the last 15 years we are qualified for the last 16 in the Champions League. Give me another club who has done that,’ Wenger said.

Asked about what he could do to respond to fans’ criticism of his managerial abilities, Wenger replied: ‘I can do my job. I do my job with total commitment, I would like you to live with me and see for seven days what kind of work we produce and you will see that it is total commitment.’

After then insisting he wasn’t hurt by fans doubting him, Wenger went on to say: ‘I started to manage a team at the top level in 1983. If I am completely useless tactically, I am a genius. I can hide it very well.’
