Jose Mourinho has brushed off speculation linking Chelsea with a world record bid for Lionel Messi, insisting Financial Fair Play is blocking any chance.

The Blues have been linked with a £200million move for the 27-year-old, with reports in Spain suggesting Barcelona may be willing to cash-in on their prized asset.

However, Mourinho insists it will be impossible for Chelsea to lure Messi to Stamford Bridge.

‘No, I have no chance of that,’ Mourinho told BT Sport.

‘Because at this moment there is financial fair play and with the financial fair play we have to follow certain rules, certain numbers and we obviously have no conditions to buy, as you say a “super amazing player” paid with “super amazing numbers” that Chelsea at this moment we cannot do.’

Mourinho comments come after Cesc Fabregas confessed he’d love Messi to join him in London.

‘I wish! Why not? I’d love that to happen,’ the midfielder said.

‘I’d be all for it. As a Barca man, I believe that Messi deserves to retire at Barca for all that he has given the club.’
