Chelsea have made a late bid to sign Bayern Munich ace Renato Sanches after sounding out the Bundesliga giants over the midfielder’s availability.

Sanches, 19, is expected to leave the Allianz Arena this summer after failing to impress in his debut campaign in Germany.

Carlo Ancelotti confirmed last week that Manchester United were in the running for his signature, while AC Milan have also shown strong interest.

However, Chelsea have thrown their name into the hat by enquiring about Sanches after the Blues’ 3-2 defeat to Bayern in Singapore this week.

Antonio Conte is believed to have spoken with Ancelotti about the midfielder with a view to taking him to Stamford Bridge on a season-long loan.

The Italian is keen to strengthen his midfield with Nemanja Matic set to depart.

Signing Sanches would be a coup for the Blues given Manchester United’s long-standing interest in the midfielder.

United were heavily linked with signing the Portugal international before he opted for Bayern and Jose Mourinho admitted he would have ‘fought’ for the midfielder had he been appointed boss earlier last summer.

Sanches, for his part, has already confirmed he wants to leave the club this summer to play more first-team football.

‘I’m not satisfied,’ Sanches told SportsBild.

‘Of course, I would like to play more that’s why I want to change and go to a club where I would play more.’
