Manchester United have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Anderlecht midfielder Leander Dendoncker.

Dendoncker has scored ten goals in 126 appearances for Anderlecht since his debut back in 2013 but the 22-year-old is being heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford ahead of the 2017/18 campaign.

Reports suggest the Red Devils have been keeping close tabs on the Belgium international and even watched him take on Antwerp in Anderlecht opening game of the season on Friday.

It’s understood Dendoncker is very high up on Jose Mourinho’s wishlist this summer and United have been told exactly what to pay for the youngster.

‘We want to cherish him, but if a club is willing to pay €25-35 million (£22-27m), we have a problem,’ Anderlecht’s sport manager Herman Van Holsbeeck told Het Belang van Limburg.

‘Against Manchester United, he has shown twice that he has the potential to play at a top European club.

‘We are lucky that the Champions League will not start until September, otherwise we’d have certainly lost him.

‘We would like to see Leander here another year, to work together for a transfer next summer. Just as we did with [Youri] Tielemans.’
