Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is unconcerned by the fact that the likes of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil are yet to sign new deals with the club and described the scenario as an ‘ideal situation.

Sanchez, Ozil, Aaron Ramsey, Jack Wilshere, Santi Cazorla, Kieran Gibbs and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have 12 months to run on their existing deals and are yet to sign new contracts.

Sanchez’s future, in particular, has hung over Arsenal’s pre-season but Wenger maintains he will stay at the club despite speculation linking him with Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City.

Many Arsenal fans are concerned that the Gunners will lose some of their star men this summer but Wenger says it is an ‘ideal situation’ that clubs will see more and more.

‘It is an ideal situation – everyone has to perform,’ said Wenger, speaking after his side’s 2-1 defeat to Sevilla.

‘When you are a player you perform until the last day of your contract. It doesn’t change if you have one year or two years left. Do you really think they sit in the dressing room and think ‘I only have one year to go, I will not play well today’.

‘When you re a player you go out and do as well as you can. What does it have to do with the length of contract.

‘I am amazed that you are surprised by that – it is normal to me. Every situation is different because some players go out of contract because the club doesn’t want to extend but nobody knows that Sanchez will not extend his contract here.

It is unusual for a club of Arsenal’s size to have so many key players running out of contract at the same time but Wenger believes it is something that will occur more in years to come.

‘I think in the future you will see that more and more,’ said Wenger.

‘Players will go to the end of their contracts. Why? Because transfers become so high, even for normal players. More and more they will go to the end of their contracts because nobody will want to pay the money that is demanded, I’m convinced in the next ten years that will become more usual.’
