Marouane Fellaini is set to consider his future at Manchester United with a move abroad in January a possibility, according to reports.

Jose Mourinho holds the Belgian midfielder in high regard but Fellaini knows he has a World Cup place up for grabs and will be out of contract next summer.

The 29-year-old has endured a mixed spell at Old Trafford since signing from Everton in 2013 and has been linked with a move to Galatasaray in recent weeks.

Mourinho said Fellaini was ‘too important’ to sell after United’s pre-season friendly against Valerenga on Sunday – the midfielder scored the opener in the comfortable 3-0 victory.

However, the Daily Mail say Fellaini could push for a move during the January transfer window, particularly after Nemanja Matic’s switch to United was confirmed.

Fellaini wants regular game-time with a World Cup on the horizon and will be allowed to open talks with foreign clubs this winter.

Meanwhile, Serbian midfielder Matic believes his new club can challenge for the Premier League title next season.

‘I think that this squad is ready because they are mature and they have already worked with Jose for one year,’ he told MUTV following his £40million move from Chelsea.

‘So they know what they have to do and I’m sure that this season we can do many things.

‘As a member of the team I think we can do many good things. I’m sure we will try to win the Premier League, also the Champions League, and you never know what can happen.

‘It’s always special to play in that competition and everything is possible. All the best teams in Europe are there so we’ll see.

‘Manchester is one of the best teams in Europe for sure. It’s very difficult to make a plan before the season starts but we will try to win every game.’
