A report into the online presence of Andrea Belotti has highlighted concerns about the Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea target.

The young striker has been linked with a big money move away from Torino for much of the summer.

Last season the 23-year-old scored an impressive 26 goals in 35 Serie A appearances to put him on the radar of every major club in Europe.

In addition Belotti has a release clause in his Torino contract, making him a viable option. However it would need a bid of £89million to trigger it.

So is he worth it?

An investigation into social media activity surrounding the striker highlights his ‘fragile fanbase’. It also reveals fans of Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea have expressed concern over the value of his release clause.

A Premier League club instructed communications agency Cicero to produce a dossier on Belotti last month, looking into his online presence.

The findings were revealed in a BBC article. While mostly positive, there were concerns about the global appeal of the Italy international.

In a section on his ‘fragile fanbase’ the report declared:

  • Heavily Torino-based interaction – ‘likely his fanbase would dissipate’ should he leave, reducing commercial and marketing activities.
  • Relationship with Torino fans could turn sour if he leaves – ‘dramatically altering tone and extent of his social media engagement’.

In addition, analysis of fan forums found the following:

  • Prominent on Chelsea forums (290 mentions), Manchester United forums (270), and Arsenal forums (113).
  • Many question whether player is worth £84.4m (100m euros) as per his release clause.
  • 191 of 270 Manchester United posts prefer Antoine Griezmann, while 211 of 290 Chelsea posts prefer Romelu Lukaku.

Belotti has been most strongly linked with Chelsea in the Premier League, with the club’s Italian coach Antonio Conte understood to be an admirer of his compatriot.

AC Milan have also been linked but Torino have consistently stated they expected to retain the striker’s services.
