Fernando Torres will line up against his old club Liverpool in the final of the Audi Cup on Wednesday night.

And the striker seems excited at the prospect of playing against the side where he enjoyed some of the best years of his goalscoring career.

Torres swapped Anfield for Chelsea’s Stamford Bridge in 2011 in what was then a club-record £50million move.

The transfer broke many Liverpool hearts, including Steven Gerrard, but Torres remains a popular figure on Merseyside despite his decision to jump ship.

Torres is back playing at his boyhood club, Atletico Madrid and has rejuvenated his career in Spain after a difficult spell at Chelsea.

He said: ‘Can’t wait to face the Reds!!!!’

Liverpool beat Bayern Munich 3-0 on Tuesday night to earn a spot in the final of the pre-season tournament while Atletico beat Napoli earlier in the week.

Torres scored 81 goals in four seasons at Liverpool and was their star attacker in his time at Anfield.

Chelsea fans were delighted to steal the Spaniard away from the Reds in January 2011, but Torres struggled to live up to his price-tag and suffered several injury set-backs.

Liverpool will look to preserve their unbeaten record in pre-season by defeating Torres’ Atletico.
