Jose Mourinho will delay his decision on whether or not to loan out Timothy Fosu-Mensah until after next week’s European Super Cup, according to reports.

The 19-year-old has long been regarded as one of the most promising youngsters on the Old Trafford books with his power and versatility rendering him a potentially useful asset ahead of the new season.

Fosu-Mensah has featured prominently in Manchester United’s pre-season campaign this summer but is attracting interest from a number of Premier League clubs who are keen on taking him on loan, with the Daily Mail claiming Watford are at the head of the queue.

The Netherlands international can play across the defensive line and in central midfield but his first team opportunities are likely to have been further compromised by the summer arrivals of Victor Lindelof and Nemanja Matic.

Antonio Valencia emerged as United’s first choice right-back last season and Fosu-Mensah’s hopes of challenging the long-serving Ecuador international are likely to be threatened should Mourinho push through a deal to sign Paris Saint-Germain’s want-away star Serge Auerier.

The Daily Mirror claims United have a deal in place to sign the Ivory Coast international, but can only complete the transfer should the 24-year-old be successful in his appeal as he looks to overturn the guilty verdict he received last year for assaulting a police officer.

His conviction prevented him from traveling to the UK last year for a Champions League group stage match against Arsenal.

United are due to face Champions League holders Real Madrid in Skopje next Tuesday and Mourinho will make a final decision on his plans for Fosu-Mensah after the match.
