Jurgen Klopp has warned star forwards Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane to toughen up ahead of the grueling Premier League season.

The summer signing from Roma and last season’s joint top goalscorer in the Premier League linked up for the first time last night since Salah’s £39million move and Mane’s return to fitness.

Both were on target in a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Bayern Munich in the Audi Cup and although Klopp was delighted by their performances, he refused to get carried away and admitted both will need to be in a position to withstand the physical challenge Liverpool’s opponents will offer when the new campaign kicks off in 10 days’ time.

‘Yes it looks good but they need to get fit and stay fit and hard and resistant because the season will be difficult. That is what we are preparing,’ said Klopp.

‘You saw that Sadio is not where he can be so he needs playing time, playing time, playing time.

‘Yes of course they are both good but they don’t need to know it all the time when they play together – and oh my god with Phil Coutinho behind as well to play all the passes for them to run in behind.’
