Former Arsenal forward Paul Mariner believes Renato Sanches is more likely to join Liverpool than Chelsea as he prepares to leave Bayern Munich.

The 64-year-old is not convinced a move to Stamford Bridge suits the 19-year-old, who is leaving the Allianz Arena in search of more playing time.

Sanches has also been linked with a switch to Manchester United, although AC Milan are thought to be the favourites to land him this summer.

But Mariner thinks the Portuguese could make a surprise switch to Anfield.

When asked if he thought Sanches would be a good signing for Chelsea, Mariner told ESPN: ‘No, not yet, I don’t think so. I think it would be a bit too much for him.

‘I think if he goes to Chelsea he just goes into the rotation. That’s not what he wants.

‘He’s a fantastic player this kid, a young player, a sensational player.

‘I think that he may end up at Liverpool.’

Jurgen Klopp is set to change his central midfield targets after missing out on RB Leipzig star Naby Keita, could Sanches fit the bill?
