There is one Manchester United player who doesn’t seem particularly enamoured by new signing Nemanja Matic’s arrival at the club: fellow summer recruit Romelu Lukaku.

The towering Belgian forward arrived in a £75 million deal from Everton at the start of July, uniting him with good friend Paul Pogba at Old Trafford.

The duo were on holiday together in Los Angeles when Lukaku sealed his transfer to United, with ‘Agent Pogba’ even claiming credit for convincing the striker to snub Chelsea.

They have been virtually inseparable ever since, delighting fans with their playful shenanigans on Instagram. Until Matic arrived.

While Lukaku has usually sat next to Pogba on the team bus, on Wednesday he was forced to look on wistfully as the Frenchman opted to sit beside Matic instead.

‘You see it Matic came and he left me,’ Lukaku wrote in Instagram, though it was all in good humour as Pogba replied in kind.

‘I’m your worst nightmare, will never leave you, dream on,’ the world’s most expensive player – at least for now – remarked in an Instagram post of his own.

Matic and Pogba will need to get to know each other fast, with the Serbian enforcer’s arrival designed to give freedom to Pogba to attack with greater abandon.

Jose Mourinho has frequently spoke of the need to bring balance to his midfield, and will hope their time spent together off the pitch can help them click on it too.
