Virgil van Dijk is desperate to join Liverpool this summer and will ask Southampton to approve his transfer to Anfield, according to reports.

The Times claims the Dutchman is doing ‘all he can’ to force through a move to Jurgen Klopp’s side and Liverpool’s interest in the centre-back has continued despite claiming earlier this summer that they will not pursue a deal.

Meanwhile, The Sun claims Van Dijk has demanded further talks with Southampton as he attempts to join Liverpool before the transfer window closes.

The 26-year-old is currently training alone at Southampton following orders from new boss Mauricio Pellegrino, although the club are refusing to entertain offers for the player who is valued at £60 million.

The Sun also claims that Van Dijk is well aware that Klopp has alternative transfer targets in mind and is concerned that his interest could end if Southampton maintain their current stance.

Liverpool fans were given a boost on Tuesday after Van Dijk was absent from Southampton’s promotional video which showed the players filming their walk-ons for television ahead of the new season.
