Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has reiterated his stance that Alexis Sanchez will not leave the club this summer and says the Chilean ‘respects’ his decision.

Sanchez, 28, is believed to be keen on leaving the club this summer to play in the Champions League next season but the Gunners will not let him go.

The Chilean has less than 12 months to run on his existing deal at the club but Wenger remains hopeful that he will sign a new contract.

Sanchez returned to training today at Arsenal’s annual members’ day at the Emirates and Wenger confirmed afterwards that the forward will not be leaving.

‘He looks good, like he’s never been away. He’s over the flu – that was never a problem for us,’ said Wenger.

‘Of course [I have spoken to him]. I speak to my players. Nothing. I have just answered. I will not give anything away on that.

‘The only thing I can tell you is he is focused. My decision is clear. He will stay, it’s as simple as that and he will respect that.’

The Gunners have made two signings so far this summer with Alexandre Lacazette and Sead Kolasinac joining the club.

Arsenal are working hard behind the scenes to add fresh faces but they have been frustrated in their efforts to sign Monaco ace Thomas Lemar.
