Manchester United and Chelsea are showing the most interest as Real Madrid reportedly offer Gareth Bale to Premier League clubs in a potential £90million transfer.
The Wales international is looking increasingly likely to make way for Kylian Mbappe at the Bernabeu after Zinedine Zidane decided he didn’t want four big names competing for three places in his attack.
Zidane has been adamant Cristiano Ronaldo would stay at the club despite speculation over his future earlier in the summer, while Karim Benzema is reportedly set to be offered a new contract.
This means Bale is the one who will lose his place to Mbappe, with Marca claiming the Spanish giants remain optimistic of completing the signing of the Monaco striker.
Club president Florentino Perez and manager Zidane have come to an agreement over selling Bale, and are asking for £90m for the former Tottenham man as they begin the process of discussing his sale with Premier League clubs.
United have been linked with Bale on a number of occasions in recent years, having tried to sign him while he was with Spurs and keeping tabs on him during his four years at the Bernabeu as well.
The 28-year-old could not hit his best form for Madrid last season, largely due to fitness problems, and has arguably rarely looked like justifying the £86m transfer fee that brought him to the club in the first place.
Still, Bale terrorised defences during his time in England and United will surely believe he can recapture his best form if he does make the move to Old Trafford.
Jose Mourinho has been keen to add a winger to his ranks this summer, with Inter Milan’s Ivan Perisic long regarded as his priority in that area, though Bale’s name has also been mentioned.
With pace, directness and an eye for goal, Bale could certainly give the Red Devils what they so badly missed for much of last season as they finished only 6th in the league, scoring just 54 goals.
Zidane dropped a hint over Bale’s future recently, admitting: ‘I hope the BBC (Benzema, Bale, Cristiano) stays but I am not the one to decide.’
While it initially looked like the Welshman would not be available, that seems to have changed and it was reported that United would move for him if that became the case.
Mourinho has spent big this summer by bringing in Victor Lindelof, Romelu Lukaku and Nemanja Matic, but has repeatedly stressed he would ideally like four signings.
