Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has sent Arsenal fans into meltdown after ‘liking’ a comment on Instagram suggesting he is on the verge of joining Liverpool this summer.

The England international, who has been converted to a wing-back recently and lined up on the left wing against Chelsea in the Community Shield, has long been linked with the Merseysiders.

And Chelsea have also emerged as rivals for his signature in recent weeks, with Antonio Conte desperate for reinforcements and keen to add more English players to his side.

But the Blues could be set to miss out on the 23-year-old judging by his latest social media activity, with Oxlade-Chamberlain liking a comment that read: ‘Unlucky mate… he’s joining Liverpool FC’.

The comment also included a fee of £28 million, which would be a huge windfall for Arsenal considering he – like so many of the Gunners’ players – only has one year left on his contract.

Jurgen Klopp could soon have his bank balance boosted by Philippe Coutinho’s potential move to Barcelona for a reported £90m, and is known to want more options down the right flank.

Oxlade-Chamberlain’s versatility means he can play in a variety of positions, including on either flank as a winger or wing-back and in central midfield.

He played at left wing-back against Chelsea at Wembley on Sunday and gave a good account of himself, just as he did in the FA Cup final, as Arsenal emerged as the victors thanks to a penalty shootout win.
