Manchester United have reportedly re-ignited their pursuit of Danny Rose after the defender made excellent strides in his injury comeback.

Jose Mourinho had cooled United’s transfer interest in Rose after the Tottenham left-back went under the knee to correct a knee issue in May.

Rose has been working his way back to fitness and could return to action before the end of the month.

The Mirror claim Rose’s progress has prompted United to get back in the race to sign the defender.

The left-back position at United has continued to be an issue with Mourinho still unconvinced by Luke Shaw and lacking a natural alternative.

Rose’s consistent form in the Premier League had attracted Mourinho to the England international.

United were chasing Rose before his injury, as was Italian side Inter who are also set to rejoin the race.

Tottenham are now bracing themselves for fresh approaches and expect United to be one of the first to make an enquiry.

Spurs are unwilling sellers after already letting left-back Kyle Walker join Manchester City last month.

Rose has not played since January as he has struggled to put his knee problems to rest.

United are hopeful they can challenge for the Premier League title this season while Tottenham are being tipped to be serious contenders for the third season in a row.

Mourinho was interested in Eric Dier earlier in the summer, but decided to put his faith in Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic.

United have made three big signings already with the arrival of Victor Lindelof, Matic and Romelu Lukaku.
