Arsenal legend Thierry Henry believes Alexandre Lacazette is up against four names in pursuit of a starting spot in Arsene Wenger’s side this season.

The France international striker joined in a club-record £52million move from Lyon this summer, and Henry believes he will prove a successful buy for the Gunners.

However, Henry also believes Wenger will rotate his options up front due to having a number of other top quality players to choose from, all of whom bring something different to the side.

Much has been made of Lacazette competing with Olivier Giroud for that centre-forward spot, but Henry says Alexis Sanchez, Danny Welbeck and Theo Walcott will also be options there.

‘(Lacazette) has a different game to Giroud, which I think is good because you need different types of strikers,’ Henry told Sky Sports.

‘It’s ironic when you think about it that Giroud starts for France and Lacazette is his sub, and it looks at club level like Giroud will be the sub. I don’t know if that’s ever happened in the history of the game!

‘He did it in the French league and people might say it’s a different league but, with due respect to Lyon, he’ll also be with better players. I’m backing him to have a good season.

‘But that rotation will be key. Sometimes you’ll need Giroud or even Sanchez in the middle and sometimes you’ll need Welbeck or Walcott, whoever will have an impact.’

Lacazette scored 37 goals in all competitions for Lyon last season, while Sanchez was Arsenal’s top scorer with 30 in total.
