Jose Mourinho has admitted Manchester United are unlikely to prize away Gareth Bale from Real Madrid this summer.

The United boss had spoken out about his desire to sign Bale before the Super Cup clash with on Real on Tuesday night and suggested if the Welshman was benched he would move to buy him.

But, Bale started the game and impressed for his side as Real beat United 2-1 to lift the Super Cup.

Mourinho spoke after the result about how he rated United’s chances of signing Bale.

‘I think so [it’s over],’ Mourinho told BT Sport after the game.

‘Clearly the club wants him and the manager wants him and he wants the club.

‘So for me, it’s game over before it really started. Now I think everyone knows he is going to stay.’

Bale was also asked about his future after the game, but the attacker insisted he had no interest in leaving Spain this summer.

Zinedine Zidane rates Bale highly and considers him a key figure in his side, especially once Cristiano Ronaldo leaves the club.

Bale struggled with injuries last season and the Super Cup start was his first for his side since late March.

Mourinho was thought to be hopeful he could make Bale his fourth summer signing of the summer, but is now set to move on to other targets.

United will turn their attention to their Premier League opener on Sunday when they welcome West Ham to Old Trafford.
