Paris Saint-Germain remain in the hunt to sign Alexis Sanchez and plan to test Arsenal’s resolve with an £80million bid, according to The Independent.

Arsene Wenger remains adamant the Chile international will stay at Arsenal this season, regardless of whether or not he signs an extension to his contract which has now entered its final 12 months.

Reports suggest the 28-year-old has no intention of agreeing to Arsenal’s latest £275,000-a-week offer but is increasingly resigned to spending another year in north London, before he is able to walk away on a free transfer next summer.

Sanchez, who celebrated with his teammates on the pitch after Sunday’s Community Shield win over Chelsea, is understood to have his heart set on a reunion with Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, but big-spending PSG could offer an intriguing alternative option should he wish to cut his ties with Arsenal before the current transfer window closes.

Wenger on Sanchez

‘The only thing I can tell you is he is focused. My decision is clear, he will stay and he will respect that. It’s as simple as that.
‘He had a good rest. He needs to work on his fitness, but once in the game he’s sharp and looks like he’s never been away.
‘The frame of mind of a football player is quite easy: you go out and focus on the game, enjoy every moment. He loves the game so much. I think he will be here for this season, and if we manage to, for more as well.’

The Ligue 1 side shattered the world record last week when they paid £198m for Neymar and believe they can muster another £80m to tempt Arsenal into selling before August 31, as well as offer Sanchez a staggering £400-a-week salary.

‘If I want Alexis Sanchez I’m going to talk to Arsene Wenger,’ PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi told Sky Sports last week after unveiling Neymar.

‘We have respect for Arsenal [and have] excellent relations.’

The Brazil international superstar, meanwhile, is said to have already been in contact with Sanchez, along with fellow new recruit Dani Alves, in an attempt to convince their former Barcelona teammate to join them in the French capital.

Wenger reiterated his desire to keep hold of last season’s top goalscorer after defeating Antonio Conte’s Chelsea on penalties on Sunday, but subsequent reports claim the long-serving Arsenal manager is at odds with other members of the club’s board over his hardline Sanchez stance.
