Chelsea are interested in signing Valencia right-back Joao Cancelo, according to reports.

Blues manager Antonio Conte is desperate for reinforcements before the transfer window closes and has found himself linked with numerous targets in recent weeks.

An area he’s understood to want to strengthen is in defence, with competition for Victor Moses seen as a necessity as the club prepare to return to the Champions League.

Cancelo has emerged as a potential option with Sky Sports reporting that Chelsea scouted the defender extensively earlier this summer. The 23-year-old featured for Portugal at the European Under-21 Championships.

The pacey, versatile style of Cancelo makes him an obvious fit for Conte’s back-three system.

The Blues have also been linked with Danny Rose.

Should Chelsea firm up their interest in Cancelo they face competition.

It was recently reported that Juventus and Tottenham are also keen on signing the Valencia player.

The latter are in need of a new right-back having seen Kyle Walker leave White Hart Lane to join Man City.
