Manchester United have sanctioned the loan of Timothy Fosu-Mensah to Crystal Palace to fuel speculation they will look to sign a full-back before the transfer window closes.

The young Dutchman joins the Eagles on a season-long deal.

It comes amid a lack of opportunities for the 19-year-old under Jose Mourinho. Last season he made just 11 appearances – with four of those in the Premier League.

‘I am only 19-years-old and still have a lot to learn and therefore getting the opportunity to play more games on a regular basis will help my development,’ said the Netherlands Under-21 international.

His departure from Old Trafford will increase speculation that Jose Mourinho is targeting a new full-back this summer.

While a versatile player, Fosu-Mensah has most often been deployed at right-back during his senior career. His departure cuts United’s options.

It comes amid reports of potential moves for Serge Aurier and Danny Rose.

PSG defender Aurier is reportedly surplus to requirements at the Parc de Princes. It’s been claimed that Manchester United have even gone as far as agreeing terms with the defender.

Another option is Rose, who conducted an explosive interview which has thrown his Tottenham future into doubt. Admitting that he was questioning whether to remain at White Hart Lane, he also said he will definitely play up north.

‘I will say this too — I will play up north,’ he said. ‘I don’t know exactly when, but I will get back up north and play some football somewhere.

‘I moved away from home (from Leeds to Spurs) at 16.

‘Yes I’ve got team-mates who have moved away from families in South Korea and Argentina, but I have been away for over ten years now and I don’t get to see my mum that often.

‘I am going to make it my priority before I retire to play football up there.’

Manchester United have so far made three signings – Romelu Lukaku, Victor Lindelof and Nemanja Matic. Before the transfer window opened Mourinho said he wanted four new arrivals.
