Arsene Wenger admits he has an impossible job to keep all of his strikers happy and revealed he was ready to let Friday’s matchwinner Olivier Giroud leave the club this summer.
Arsenal’s 4-3 victory over Leicester was booked-ended by goals from their France international forwards Alexandre Lacazette and Giroud, a second half substitute, who powered home a header with five minutes remaining.
Wenger has Danny Welbeck, Theo Walcott, Alex Iwobi, Mesut Ozil as well has his two compatriots to select from in attacking roles and is ready to welcome Alexis Sanchez to the fold.
The long-serving Arsenal boss revealed he offered Giroud the opportunity to depart this summer but is delighted the 30-year-old has opted to stay and fight for his place.
‘It’s impossible. You know that you cannot keep them happy when they don’t play,’ Wenger told Sky Sports.
‘We have many games and hopefully I can give a good number to all the strikers. They all deserve to play at that level.’
On Giroud’s situation, Wenger added: ‘I love the man and the player. He is a fantastic guy and he is committed and loves the club.
‘He doesn’t want to leave. At one stage I opened the door for him because he knew I had many strikers.
‘He is loved here and we are very happy he decided to stay.’
