Paris Saint-Germain defender Thomas Meunier has done a Gerard Pique and declared that Manchester United transfer target Serge Aurier is staying at the club.

The Belgian has tweeted ‘Se queda’, meaning ‘it stays’, which is now infamous for its unfortunate use by Pique not long before Neymar ended up leaving Barcelona for PSG.

It is not clear if Meunier’s tweet is intended ironically or if he’s simply keen to take a little dig at the Barca defender by announcing his club will be holding on to Aurier this summer.

The Ivory Coast international has been strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford recently, with some reports that he’s agreed a five-year contract as a move edges closer.

Jose Mourinho has made it clear he’d like four signings this summer, and has so far brought in three with Romelu Lukaku, Nemanja Matic and Victor Lindelof arriving.

It remains to be seen if the Red Devils can secure one more purchase, but Aurier has long been mentioned as one of many potential targets, along with Tottenham left-back Danny Rose and wingers Gareth Bale and Ivan Perisic.

Aurier has not been without his troubles at PSG, and struggled to play as regularly last season before manager Unai Amery admitted this summer that he was looking for a move.

It may be that that has now changed, with Meunier surely not risking the wrath of his supporters by claiming a player is staying when he in fact isn’t.
